PRETERM SENSORY DEVELOPMENT COURSE
Description:
This course will examine how the sensory system develops in several sequences with a process specific to each system with a transnatal continuum. This development is based partly on interactions between the fetus and the newborn and their physical and human environment; and is crucial for their survival. This adaptation of the newborn’s physical environment of the hospital where the immature infants are immersed differs greatly from the uterine environment. This class will look at how the sensory development can be affected by prematurity and the NICU environment, and how therapist in early intervention can support these infant’s.
